Matlacha Civic Association was founded in 1981 as a not for profit organization as set forth in Part One of Chapter 617 of the Florida Statutes. The Association was founded by J.C. Smith, Chevy Schutz, Claude Fields, Everett Keese, James Leslie, David Marks, Raymond Krull, and Be a Wieseckel.
The specific and primary purpose for which this corporation was organized is to promote the civil interest and general welfare of the Matlacha community and to provide a forum for its residents.
Our mission is four fold, as stated in our articles of incorporation:
"The general purposes for which this corporation is formed are:
1. To conduct meetings to inform the membership of any progress, legislation or proposed projects that affect the Matlacha community.
2. To furnish a forum for members to express their views on any community matters and to present worthwhile projects for consideration and action.
3. To provide a unified voice on civic problems to present to our County Commissioners and State Legislature to obtain action for Matlacha improvements.
4. To promote social events and progress for improving and maintaining good relations with all local residents."
